10-Strike - generic term for covers with 10 matches;
manufactured by Ohio, Match Corp, and Universal; introduced by Universal in 1938. John Williams’s collection numbers 8,000+ [see also Ten-Strike]

12-Strike - generic term for covers with 12 matches; cover is slightly wider than 10-strike covers; produced by Arrow Match Co., Advance Match Co., and Maryland Match Co.; unclear as to whether Arrow or Advance introduced the size. At least 1714 known.

12-Up - Arrow Match Co. trademark for its 12-strike covers; 1940-1950.

20-Strike - generic term for covers with 20 matches or that sized cover; earliest and most common size of matchcover; produced by almost all US manufacturers after 1920. [see also specific trademarks such as Eagle 20, etc.]

21 Feature - Lion trademark for its 21-stick Feature covers; these are 30-stick sized covers; introduced c. 1935.

22 Feature - Lion trademark for its 22-stick Feature covers; these are 30-stick sized covers; introduced c. 1935

30-Strike - generic term for covers with 30 matches or that sized cover; first introduced by Owname in 1935. [see also specific trademarks such as Ambassador, Aristocrat, etc.]

40-Strike - generic term for covers with 40 matches or that sized cover; introduced by Advance Match Co. in 1931. Joe Onofri’s collection numbers 2000+. [see also specific trademarks such as Billboard, Royal Flash, etc.]

100-Strike - generic term for covers with 100 matches. [see also Centurylite]

200-Strike - a cover with 200 match sticks; souvenir-types.

240-Strike - a cover with 240 match sticks; souvenir-types; 1939-?

AA - An infrequently used abbreviation for American Ace [See American Ace]

Abrasive - A previously obsolete term for striker, but it seems to be making something of a comeback with the appearance in recent years of a very granulated-type striker on certain matchboxes, often foreign.

Accumulation - As opposed to collection, refers to an amassed group of covers or boxes which have not been organized into any logical fashion; often used to refer to the holdings of non-collectors.

Ace - Short form of American Ace [See American Ace]

Ace Match Corp. - Defunct match company; Maywood, IL, 1936- dissolved 1957. [I have never actually seen an Ace mm]

Acme Match Corp. - Defunct match company; Duluth, MN (?); originally Acme Match Co.1920s-1931. 6 covers currently listed.

Acme Quality - Acme Match Co. footer (1920s)

Acorn Match Co. - Defunct match company; c. 1920s. 3 covers currently listed.

Action Match - Universal trademark, ca. 1940; characterized by flared edges at the saddle when opened; at least 24 known varieties.

Adams Hats - Sponsor/advertiser for 9 sets and series of 20-strike covers from 1935 to 1948;
